Directed and Produced by Katy Jenkyns, "Eating the Future" follows the narrator – voiced by Bafta-winning Mia McKenna-Bruce – a composite investigator drawn from countless combined experiences of those who work undercover to expose the realities behind factory farms. Terrified of a climate collapse, she embarks on a journey into the food systems that shape our planet. Looking for a glimmer of hope in the darkness, she listens to farmers, doctors, scientists, animal and food activists, and slaughterhouse workers, discovering what it will take to improve the lives of all beings trapped and harmed in this vicious cycle. 

Together we can change the broken food system. Ecological farmers working to high animal welfare standards and exploring alternative ways of farming show it can be done. Now, politicians and food companies must take responsibility, and drive the transition to a better future. For the animals. For the planet. For generations to come. 

Ceres is a global platform that uses the power of food-focused films to spark connection, deepen awareness, and motivate action around what, how, and why we eat. From food access and agriculture to gastronomy and cultural identity, Ceres films help us move towards a more conscious, connected, and sustainable future. The festival returns  for its 9th season with an expanded multi-day program across New York City.

"Eating the Future" will open the final day of the Ceres Food Film Festival at 10 am on Sunday, October 19. Director, Katy Jenkyns, will be attending the screening along members of our FOUR PAWS staff, and a Q&A session will follow the film.

Eating the Future celebrated its world premiere on November 19, 2024 at the Rote Fabrik in Zurich as part of the Films for Future Festival 2024. It won the award for Best Documentary at the UK Film Festival 2024. And, in addition to the Colorado Environmental Film Festival,  it is an Official Selection at the Paris International Film Festival 2025, and Cinema Verde: Films for a Sustainable Future 2025.
